Chris Henry for Multnomah County Commissioner

As a candidate for Multnomah County Commissioner, I am deeply committed to tackling the critical issues impacting our community’s well-being and prosperity.

HUNGER, HOUSING, HOMELESSNESS & MENTAL HEALTH

Affordable housing is not a privilege but a fundamental human right! I pledge to tirelessly advocate for policies ensuring safe and affordable housing for every resident. Addressing homelessness requires multifaceted solutions, including robust support services, affordable housing initiatives, and strategic partnerships with community organizations. Together, we can forge pathways to stability and self-sufficiency.

HEALTHCARE, TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE

Equitable access to quality healthcare services, mental health resources, and addiction treatment programs is a human right. Therefore, Universal Healthcare is not only essential, but imperative for fostering a healthier and more vibrant community. I am committed to advocating for comprehensive healthcare access for all residents, ensuring no one is left behind. A well-connected transportation infrastructure is vital for fostering economic growth and community cohesion. I will prioritize investments in public transit, bicycle infrastructure, and pedestrian safety measures to create a more accessible and sustainable transportation network. Ridership fares constitute around only 7% of every dollar of TriMet’s operating budget, we should consider shifting to a fare-less system such as other cities.

RADICALLY SUSTAINABLE PEOPLE’S ENERGY GRID

To address arbitrary for-profit energy rate hikes, I will aggressively advocate for a PGE/PUD that is a Publicly-Owned-Utility by the Workers and Ratepayers it serves. Environmental sustainability is paramount in safeguarding our natural resources and combating climate change. I will be a staunch advocate for policies promoting renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and preserving our forests, rivers, and parks for future generations. Industrial Hemp should be replacing timber harvest and the carbon sink that is our precious PNW forests.

SOCIAL JUSTICE & A PUBLICLY OWNED BANK

Furthermore, social justice lies at the core of my platform. I am dedicated to dismantling systemic barriers to opportunity and championing policies that address racial disparities, economic inequality, and discrimination within our community. To fund PUBLIC works projects, I will advocate for a publicly owned Multnomah County Bank to supplant floating bonds on the stock market, thereby, cutting out Wall Street middlemen and Vulture Capitalists, who siphon off much needed public dollars to line their pockets.
